WORLD DAY OF THE SICK - since 1992, the Catholic Church has celebrated World Day of the Sick on February 11th, the day on which the Church commemorates the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. World Day of the sick has three consistent themes (1) It reminds the faithful to pray intensely and sincerely for those who are sick and elderly (2) The celebration invites Christians to reflect on and respond to human suffering (3) This day recognizes and honours all persons who work in health care and serve us.
We would like to invite all sick people, and those who suffer or are afflicted by any form of infirmity, and those who take care of them in various ways, to SS Mary & John's Church on Sunday 12th February, at 4pm for a special Mass during which the Sacrament of the Sick will be celebrated. After Mass we will be praying the Holy Rosary and offering if for the sick and those that care for them, in front of the Exposed Blessed Sacrament. The Lourdes Blessing will finish our celebration.
Please inform all those that are sick and housebound, including your family members and neighbours about this event and please help them to get to Church. There will be refreshments in the hall following the service.
If you are not able to get to Mass or if you are going into hospital, let Fr. Kazimierz know.
If you notice someone you know from the church who has not been at Mass recently, please let us know.
FEAST OF THE WEEK
OUR LADY OF LOURDES (Sat) Blessed John Paul II requested that this day be set aside as a Day of Prayer for the Sick of the whole world. As we know, he was no stranger to illness, and he wrote: "During these days of illness I have been able to understand better the value of the service that the Lord has called me to render to the Church as a priest, as a Bishop, and as the successor of St Peter. May the Blessed Virgin accept the renewed offering of myself: Totus Tuus Ego Sum (his motto: I am wholly Thine)." In the south aisle of our church is a window showing young Bernadette in her sabots pondering on what Our Lady had said to her. The window was given by Bishop Cleary, our Parish Priest for 40 years, who had a very great devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes.
