CHILDREN'S LITURGY will recommence on Sunday 12th September.

OUR TUESDAY CLUB will recommence at 1.30pm on Tuesday 14th September, as we are now having a Summer Break.

GENTLE KEEP-FIT in our hall every Tuesday, 11.00am until 12 noon. If you wish to join, just turn up, you will be made very welcome.

PAPAL VISIT - The cost of each ticket (to include the coach fare) is £25. The coaches will be leaving early morning from St. Patrick's. The coaches will be parking some distance from Cofton Park so there will be a lot of walking involved. We feel, because of the small allocation of the tickets, that only Church workers and regular Sunday Mass attenders could be considered for a ticket. If you have signed the list and because of the cost or the difficulties that will be encountered e.g. walking, and no longer wished to be considered, please let one of the priests know as soon as possible.

MASS INTENTIONS - If you wish for a Mass to be said for either a relative or friend, living or deceased, please see one of the priests.

HYMNBOOKS - It is hoped that 200 hymnbooks can be ordered soon. However, we have not yet received enough funds for the 200 books. Donations would be gratefully received.

SAINT OF THE WEEK

ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA (Saturday) was born in Northern Spain in the late 1490s of an ancient noble family. Like so many of his time and background he trained as a soldier, but after a few years a cannon-ball broke his leg badly in a siege. He suffered a great deal from this (surgery was very primitive, and there were no anaesthetics) and was near to death on at least one occasion. Even when he recovered, he walked with a limp for the rest of his life. During a long convalescence, reading some lives of saints inspired him to a life dedicated to prayer and penance. As a soldier, he had little formal education, so he decided to study "as a means of helping him to work for souls". After many misunderstandings and false accusations against him, he was ordained priest. With some companions he formed the Society of Jesus, and offered their services to the Pope to do whatever he needed. Europe was in turmoil by the Reformation, and his Society was intended to be in the forefront of the defence of the Faith. He became the first superior of the new order (soon to be called ‘Jesuits') in 1541, and by the time of his death fifteen years later, the Society had grown to over a thousand members, who were working in many lands to spread the Faith. They were very active in England in the Penal Times, and 26 of our martyrs were Jesuits. The motto that St. Ignatius adopted ‘Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam' (To the Greater Glory of God, usually abbreviated to AMDG) is frequently found on prayer cards and pictures.
